Congress to approach HC  if CM fails to sack Lobo

CALANGUTE: The Congress on Thursday disclosed that the party will approach High Court if Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant fails to implement Lokayukta order on Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo.

Former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes have informed that the Congress Party has decided to approach the High Court if Chief Minister does not implement Lokayukta order to sack Lobo from the Cabinet.

“Our party is going to take a logical conclusion if the government does not act. We will approach the High Court with this recommendation of Lokayukta to make the Chief Minister implement the order passed by Lokayukta on Lobo,” Fernandes added.

“Lobo told people that the case filed by complainant of illegal road construction is disposed by the High Court but he did not tell that the case was disposed provided with the permission of the complainant to withdraw the case and approach any other court. He is trying to fool the people saying that the case has been thrown out by the High Court but actually Court has given them permission to approach the competent authority,” the former Calangute MLA said.

“Lobo said just because Lokayukta did not get extension, he passed this order but fact is Lokayukta cannot get extension beyond 75 years of age which is already completed and with this the Minister’s idea of fooling the people is exposed,” Fernandes said.

“Lobo stated that no casino will come up for another three years but he has made a statement on December 30, 2019 that the casino has to come. Another statement he made was on June 9, 2020 that replacement vessel should come. But now he is saying he has not permitted any new casino. He should stop fooling the people,” Fernandes added.

“None of the MLAs of Calangute Constituency in the past have done so much of destruction in Calangute. Hills from Salpe to Sinquerim, Baga and now Parra are disappearing. The sewerage project which was sanctioned during my term is still not completed. Lobo is now doing plastic survey by breaking some compound walls and widening the footpaths. This is not the development that Calangute wants. The electricity supply is pathetic, bills charges are high, roads are bad and now just because we lost we should allow drugs business, prostitution to flourish in the Calangute. This is the reason Lokayukta has rightly said that he is not fit to be a minister,” Fernandes said.

Joseph Sequeira, former sarpanch of Calangute Panchayat said, “It’s high time that Lobo should resign on the moral grounds if he has any respect for the chair and for the Constitution of India. He had once said that he will get Lokayukta within 100 days after coming into power and has also said that everyone should be accountable to the orders of the Lokayukta. Judge is supreme authority holding highest authority and Lobo is holding ministry as a favour from the Chief Minister for importing 10 MLAs from Congress to form the government.”
