Amonkar, who Friday morning got anticipatory bail from local Court, told media that his involvement in the incident was just to resolve the fight that erupted between Kariya and Gilbert Mariano Victor Rodrigues. “There are several witnesses including the CCTV footage from the restaurant (where incident occurred) which will prove that I am innocent,” he said.
“Milind Naik and his BJP supporters are instigators of the entire incident against me. This is nothing but an attempt to malign my image,” he said. Vasco police have registered a case against Amonkar, Mariano and four others under Sections 143, 147, 341, 324, 504 read with 149 of the IPC.
The complaint states that a group consisting of Bingi, Sancoale panch Govind Lamani, Ganesh Mudliar and the victim Ramgopal Yadav alias Kariya had gone to a restaurant on Tuesday night at Bogmalo. There, they saw Amonkar and group having dinner. To avoid conflict, the Bingi group left the restaurant.
Amonkar’s group followed them outside the restaurant and attacked them. While others managed to escape, Kariya was assaulted with a rod. Kariya ran away and hid in the bushes. He was found unconscious and shifted to Cottage hospital, Chicalim and later to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
