PANJIM: Even as the state police grapple with allegations of being insensitive to women, a police constable attached to the Agassaim police station Wednesday assaulted a woman security guard at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in broad daylight.
The cop was arrested after he was overpowered by four of his colleagues and later released on bail. He has since been suspended.
Witnesses say that the constable looked as if he was intoxicated, while police officials say that the medical report does not show alcohol in the blood.
“The constable has been arrested and then released on bail,” Agassaim Police Inspector Shivram Vaingankar told media, confirming that he indeed looked drunk.
“Medically the certificate says that he is not drunk, but to our observation he looked drunk,” the PI said. The constable has been booked under Sections 447 (trespass), 323 (assault), 504 (abusing) and 352 of IPC.
