PANJIM: The memorial of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar at Miramar will soon be a reality.
Sources stated that GSIDC is likely to hold a contest amongst architects to select the best design for the memorial.
Parrikar was cremated at Miramar beach adjacent to the memorial of Goa’s first Chief Minister late Dayanand Bandodkar.
Sources stated that GSIDC will construct the memorial depicting the life of Parrikar, so that the generations to come can have first-hand experience about the late leader.
Former GSIDC vice chairman Sidharth Kuncalienker had suggested that since the new memorial is near the existing Bandodkar memorial, the entire area should be built as one complex. In this project, Bandodkar memorial will also be revived wherein people can see it from proximity.
On Friday, the State government appointed Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza as GSIDC  vice-chairman. He told Herald that construction of the memorial would be one of his priorities.
“We need to pay tribute to (late) Parrikar in the form of a memorial. He is the best Chief Minister, Goa ever had,” he said, adding that the details about this project would be known to him only once he takes over.
Interestingly, people close to Parrikar’s family have renamed Parrikar’s personal twitter account to “Manohar Parrikar memorial” indicating their determination to construct a memorial to perpetuate his memory.
