PANJIM: Admitting that State finances are under “tremendous stress” due to stoppage of all business activities, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday appealed to all private companies to contribute “wholeheartedly” towards CSR funds to fight COVID-19 outbreak.
In an appeal, Dr Sawant said that from the outset of COVID-19, the State finances are under tremendous stress due to reduction and stoppage of all business activities.
“I therefore appeal to all the companies to wholeheartedly contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to enable the State government to fight COVID-19,” he said.
Chief Minister said the State Finance Department will soon open a dedicated bank account for the purpose, details of which will be published and made known to public.
“Coronavirus has adversely impacted human life all over the world and the COVID-19 cases are slowly rising in India,” he said.
“Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India, has clarified that spending of CSR funds for COVID-19 is eligible CSR activity under Schedule VII relating to promotion of healthcare, including preventive healthcare and sanitation,” the Chief Minister added.
Goa has so far not reported any positive case of Coronavirus. As a preventive measure, government has ordered partial lockdown across State till March 25.
