PORVORIM: The office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police has requested the Captain of Ports to shift the Swastik cruise boat from Betim wharf as it causes traffic congestion and inconvenience to the general public.

The Reis Magos Panchayat through the Porvorim Police had brought to the notice of Traffic Cell of Police Department that several tourists visit the Swastik Cruise boat berthed at Betim wharf, adjacent to the ferry ramp at Betim, between 6 pm and 8 pm to enjoy the boat ride. Likewise, everyday several commuters use the ferry service including the vehicles to cross from Betim to Panjim and vice versa.

However, due to lack of sufficient parking space, the tourists who visit Swastik Cruise boat park their vehicles along the roadside thereby narrowing the carriage way of the already narrow Betim-Verem road.

The panchayat had further stated that due to parking of the vehicles along the roadsides, the route buses are compelled to make halts in the middle of the road. Hence, the vehicular flow along the Betim-Verem road gets blocked and traffic chaos is witnessed frequently between 6 pm and 8 pm, due to which there has been a rise in accidents along this stretch of road.

Hence, the Reis Magos Panchayat had requested the Traffic Police to shift the Swastik Cruise boat from Betim ferry wharf.

On verifying the facts with the Traffic Cell, Deputy Superintendent of Police requested the Captain of Ports to shift the Swastic Cruise boat from Betim ferry wharf.
