A 39-year-old business woman who runs a bar and restaurant in Calangute Village has levelled allegations against Calangute police saying they remained mere spectators as her restaurant was ransacked and destroyed by some locals on January 22 and she file a complaint before SP North.
Susan Vaz, who is a resident of Taleigao while addressing a press conference on Tuesday here said, on January 22, at about 2. 30 pm, she received a call from her Nigerian fiancée, saying one rickshaw has banged `I 20’ car which was parked in front of their restaurant.
Rickshawalla was stopped by one customer and asked to pay compensation for damages. However he refused to co-operate and started calling people on his cell phone, she claimed in her complaint.
It was then she instructed her fiancée to call police. Police who were present at the scene and had started the formalities, did nothing to prevent the rickshaw driver and his from breaking the glass door of the bar and some alcohol bottles, she alleged.
They also damaged two more cars parked outside — one belonging to the customer and one to her, she said in her complaint and claimed that whole destruction has been recorded on the CCTV installed in the restaurant. She said, as a future course of action, she would make a complaint to SP North about police excesses.
