CURCHOREM: In a bid to maintain peace and harmony among the aggrieved parishioners of Curchorem, the Curchorem Police has requested church authorities to have an urgent dialogue with all stakeholders in the matter.
In a swift action, Curchorem Police on Monday sent a confidential report to the South Goa Collector, Quepem deputy collector and Superintendent of Police, in connection with the tension that prevailed at Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem, on Sunday morning.
In the report, Curchorem PI Siddhant Shirodkar has requested the authorities to hold a dialogue between all parties concerned. “The situation requires sensitive handling and urgent action,” PI Shirodkar stated in his report.
It may be recalled that Curchorem parishioners had confronted Episcopal Vicar South Goa Fr Lucio Dias, demanding the reinstatement of Fr James Torres e Silva as parish priest of Guardian Angel Church, Curchorem.
Fr Dias’ statement during the Sunday Mass at Guardian Angel Church that hardly 200-300 parishioners had attended the meeting on September 9 to protest against the resignation of Fr James had angered the parishioners.
After the mass, the aggrieved parishioners confronted Fr Dias and asked him to justify his statement. Fr Dias was allowed to leave the church premises only after the intervention of Curchorem PI Shirodkar.
PI Shirodkar requested the parishioners to submit their demands/grievances to him so that he could forward them to the administration and the Church superiors for an amicable solution in the matter.
