PANJIM: The problem of illegal touting, guiding, hotels and boating businesses has grown to massive proportions in the recent days in Goa. The Goa Police have booked several cases against tourism related illegalities from April 2022 till date and netted in over Rs 15 lakhs as penalties.
The police have collected a total of Rs. 15.27 lakh by booking the violators involved in illegal practices

The highest amount of Rs 5.35 lakh was collected by the cops in November by booking cases against such illegal activities.
The police also registered cases against encroachment on beaches by erecting deck beds and umbrellas and collected Rs 50,000 imposed as penalities.
In order to keep the unscrupulous elements at bay, the Goa police provided enhanced assistance to the Tourism Department by giving their personnel for support.
Eighty cops were deployed to assist the Tourism Department in December for enforcement purposes.
As a result, the Tourism Department and Police together booked over 400 cases of illegal tourist activities and touts in North Goa alone.
28 cases of public drinking at beaches, 23 cases of unauthorised begging, 67 cases under the Tourist Touts Trade Act and more than 300 cases were booked against unauthorised activities.
Superintendent of Police North Goa Nidhin Valsan has reiterated his request to the hotel and Guest House owners to be vigilant in view of tourist season and if any drug activities or illicit activities are noticed by them, he has requested them intimate the police immediately.
