MARGAO, MAY 6
For the second day on Thursday, the coastal police effectively patrolling the Arabian Sea and the mouth of River Sal, intercepting two boats at Betalbatim and at Mobor as part of Sagar Kavach.
Sources in the know said the police patrol boat first intercepted a vessel at Mobor in the wee hours of Thursday, opposite Leela beach. The operation continued thereafter and the patrol boat led by Betul Coastal police station incharge, PI Gurudas Kadam intercepted the second vessel off Betalbatim.
A patrol party of the Betul coastal police station also maintained round-the-clock vigil at the mouth of River Sal at Betul, conducting search of the fishing vessels returning to the nearby Cutbona fishing jetty for suspicious men and armaments.
“It was a rich experience for the men-in-uniform to maintain a vigil right at the river mouth at Betul. The mock drill will help the police in the future to immediately take positions in times of  terror alerts”, remarked a police official.
In fact, the police patrol boat whistled to every incoming boat into the river to make available for a search as part of the two-day operation.
Deputy Sarpanch of Betul Panchayat, Mangaldas Naik said the ongoing drill will certainly help the police to be alert to deal with terrorism. He, however, felt that the government should make available all facilities, including speed boats and armaments for the police to combat terror and fight the well-equipped terrorists.
Meanwhile, the Margao police personnel continued their operation of search of visitors at the district police headquarters and the district Collectorate building for the second day today.
