Cops recover bags with 255 bottles

The Cuncolim Police on late Monday evening seized 255 liquor bottles and arrested a passenger from Bangalore on the charges of illegally transporting liquor from Goa to Karnataka.
The incident occurred this evening when a Karnataka state-owned Volvo bus was proceeding towards Cuncolim when a bag fell down on the road at Panzarconne. Superintendent of Police (Security) Tony Fernandes, who was heading home stopped his vehicle and after inspection of the bag found that it contained liquor bottles. Suspecting hanky panky, the SP immediately called the Cuncolim police station with clear instructions to detain the bus and conduct a thorough search for any liquor bottles.
No sooner the bus reached near the Cuncolim police station, the police personnel escorted the bus to the police station and the search revealed bags containing 255 liquor bottles.
Cuncolim Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar told Herald that the police have seized the consignment and have placed under arrest one Mahesh Sunder, a native of Bangalore. The police later recorded the statements of the bus passengers.
