Corpses of 5 pigs burnt at Curtorim

MARGAO: Five pigs were found dead and dumped in the nullah in Curtorim on Monday. Locals suspect that the pigs may have been poisoned and killed.

The decomposing corpses of the pigs had spread filthy smell all over the market area in Curtorim. The panchayat wrote to the sub health centre to help dispose the decomposed pigs but they did not receive any help. After losing hope the panchayat filed a police complaint requesting the police to register complaint and set a deterrent. The pigs were finally burnt in the nullah by locals to prevent any further problems.
The dead pigs were discovered by a local shop owner in the afternoon and the panchayat has since then been running around to get them disposed. Health officers conducted an inspection and said that the decomposing corpses may cause a health hazard. But the health officials later passed the buck and said that it’s the work of the local administration and animal husbandry.
Locals after waiting for the authorities burned the pigs at the same place fearing the poison would spread in the water bodies. The panchayat does not have any land to dispose or bury such filth. The panchayat has also appealed to the people to keep the area clean and free of such filth.
