Corruption in food grains distribution at fair price shop exposed

MARGAO: After former Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik now All Goa Consumer Cooperative Society and Fair Price Shop Owners Association exposed the alleged corruption in the distribution of food grains during pandemic times. Further, they have demanded investigation into the matter at the earliest.

Addressing the media persons Gandhi Henriques, General Secretary of the association, along with Chairman Joaquim Fernandes and other members also stated that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no right to remain in power, as the government has cheated the dealers by extorting 70 paisa on lakhs of kgs of food grains they distributed to consumers during the period of May to July 2020.

Henriques has alleged that massive corruption practices are witnessed in the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.

It may be noted there are more than 500 fair price shop owners and more than five lakh consumers. Gandhi also submitted several documents as evidence about the corruption by the concerned department.

As claimed by the office-bearers of the association, the owners of the fair price shops were forced to distribute food grains for free but the government did not give a single rupee for transporting and handling charges.

He further argued that the written assurance to increase from 7 kgs to 15 kgs of rice to all APL ration card holders is pending for the last three years. The consumers are unhappy, frustrated as it is difficult to manage as a family with 7 kgs per card.
