VASCO: The Cortalim-Quelossim gram sabha on Sunday turned down the proposal to allocate land sought by the Goa Haj Committee for the construction of Haj House.
A formal resolution objecting to the Haj committee’s request besides resolution on various other issues were also adopted during the gram sabha meeting that was chaired by Sarpanch Hilario Figueiredo on Sunday.
The proposal from Goa Haj Committee official Sheikh Jina requesting land for the construction of Haj house was placed before the gram sabha by Sarpanch Figueiredo, thus while having discussion on the issue the gram sabha members strongly objected to the allocation of land by the Cortalim Comunidade.
They however demanded the Cortalim Comunidade authorities allocate land for setting up garbage treatment plant in the village as same is essential for the villagers.
Later, to another proposal from fisheries department to upgrade and widen existing fishing jetty at Cortalim by 80 meters, the gram sabha unanimously resolved to retain the existing fishing jetty by way of up gradation and repair, without constructing a new jetty at the site as the new jetty would not be useful for locals but for outsiders.
On the issue of loud music being played onboard a tourist boat operating close to Cortalim jetty, the gram sabha resolved that the panchayat should restrict the loud music and entertainment programmes onboard the tourist boat by 10 pm and panchayat should warn the tourist boat operator that if he was found playing loud music after 10 pm, then, the panchayat would cancel their licence.
Some of the members, however, demanded that the panchayat should not renew the licence of tourist boat as it disturbs the peace and tranquility of the village.
