PANJIM: Of the 28 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, 24 are linked to Mangor Hill as total cases from the containment zone and those linked to it crossed 250.
The media bulletin released by the Directorate of Health reveals that 28 cases tested positive for the infection of which 24 are linked to Mangor Hill, while two persons travelled from Maharashtra via road, and two others by rail – one each from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
This brings the total active cases to 320. The confirmed cases are recorded at 387 of which 67 have recovered.
On Wednesday, 2,049 samples were sent for testing of which 1,574 reports were received. No COVID-19 patient recovered on Wednesday.
At present, 898 persons are in quarantine at various residencies and hotels and 13 patients are in isolation wards.
As COVID-19 cases have been spreading across the State, on Wednesday a local from Taleigao was reportedly found positive following which around 90 villagers underwent a test. Sarpanch Agnelo D’Cunha said that swab testing of 90 villagers was carried out after a kitchen staff at ESI Hospital Margao was found with COVID-19 symptoms.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday visited Goa Medical College and Hospital to monitor the installation of Abbott M2000 RT PCR machine. He said a test run will be conducted after installation of the machine, after which it will start conducting full-fledged testing of 450 samples per day.
“This new installation will further strengthen our testing capacity in the State and bolster our fight against COVID-19. I interacted with the team of doctors at GMC to discuss functioning of the Abbott RT PCR machine. Our doctors and health workers at GMC have been working 24/7 to ensure the lab functions in optimum capacity,” he said.
