COVID count, positivity rate dip; Deaths keep on edge

PANJIM: The daily COVID positivity rate has dropped below 7% for the first time in over two months to 6.37% on Thursday. 

229 cases were reported on Thursday while 3,596 samples were tested. The Directorate of Health Services (DHS) also reported another 9 deaths on Thursday. All of these took place between Thursday and Wednesday. 

DHS reported that 194 persons were placed under home isolation, 35 patients were hospitalised and 30 persons were discharged from various private hospitals.

Six of these deaths took place at Goa Medical College (GMC), while the remaining three took place at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH)

Two of the nine deceased persons had no comorbid conditions, as per DHS. Amongst the nine deceased persons, the youngest to succumb to the infection was a 47-year-old male from Goa. All of the remaining eight deceased persons were above the age of 51 years.

 The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic has now risen to 3,022.

While the total number of active cases has consistently dropped on a daily basis over the last month and a half, it increased slightly to 2,727 cases on Thursday.

258 persons were reported to have recovered on Thursday, taking the recovery rate to 96.52%. This daily DHS update has the lowest number of recovered persons over the last several weeks.

The Primary Health Centre (PHC), Ponda with 231 active cases is still the only health centre with over 200 such cases. Urban Health Centre (UHC) Panjim (154) and UHC Margao (153) are the only other health centres with over 150 active cases.
