PANJIM: State’s new COVID-19 cases soared to 1432 in the last 24 hours. The highest single day rise in seven months has taken the positivity rate to 21.72 per cent. As Coronaviruscases continue to rise in absence of strict restrictions including border checks and night curfew, the State’s active caseload has now breached 5,000-mark and stood at 5931 on Friday.

Of the total 1432 cases, 14 have been admitted in the hospital, while rest have opted for home isolation for being mild symptoms or asymptomatic.

In last 24 hours, a total of 112 patients were declared recovered while two succumbed to the infection. The recovery rate continues to drop further from 95 per cent to 95.92 per cent.

The bulletin released by the Health Department on Friday did not disclose a break-up of active cases across the health centres. Until Friday, Margao and Panjim reported major jump in daily cases.

The State continues to receive unchecked domestic tourists while mandatory testing and home quarantine of international passengers has been imposed by the Union government.

The coastal State is also catering to charter tourists and new guidelines of mandatory seven days home quarantine and RT-PCR test on the eighth day of arrival could see a drop in inbound arrivals.
