PANJIM: Continuing to streamline the movement of handcarts in the State capital, Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday began to scrutinize handcarts.
Chairman of CCP’s Market Committee, Uday Madkaikar, scrutinized the documents of all the handcarts and said that some handcarts had the same numbers.
He said, “This indicates that there are some illegal handcarts in the city and we will take action against these carts and only licensed and legal ones will be able to do business in the city.”
He said that all the carts have been instructed to assemble on Saturday at Bandodkar Football Ground and physical inspection of the carts will be undertaken.
“We have now asked them to renovate their carts for better hygiene and we will provide new designs to them on Saturday,” he stated.
Last week CCP Commissioner Dipak Desai had evicted 11 handcarts from 18th June road which had permanently stationed themselves at designated spots. The carts were returned to the owners only after they assured to take the carts along during the night.
Following complaints from citizens, the Mayor had issued a note earlier demanding to know the action taken on the complaints filed and what action was initiated against the illegal handcarts.
