Family refuses to take possesion of body

CANACONA: Normalcy returned to Canacona on Tuesday, even as the Crime Branch took over the investigation of suspected rape and murder of a 50-year-old fisherwoman, Vijaya Pagi.
According to sources, the agitating people have warned to resume protest on Thursday, if police failed to arrest the culprits by Wednesday. The family of Pagi has also continued to refuse to take possession of the body.
The Crime Branch team led by SP (Crime) Kshyap visited the crime spot, opposite ITI at Mastimol-Canacona, on Tuesday evening.
Sources informed that the Crime Branch team reportedly narrowed down on one angle after speaking to close family members of the deceased, and reportedly called two youth for questioning, with a strong possibility of a breakthrough within a day of taking over the investigation late Monday evening.
If sources are to be believed, the Crime Branch sleuths, requesting cooperation of immediate family in resolving the murder, reportedly questioned Vijaya’s husband and her daughter on Tuesday.
Even though there is no confirmation, Crime Branch sleuths will be investigating into the case from Margao as its base, as frequent gathering of crowd in large numbers at Canacona Police station is believed to be hindering and creating obstruction in the investigation process.
Meanwhile on Tuesday morning, almost all the shops, banks, pharmacies, restaurants, other eateries, vegetable market, daily roadside vendors, fish market, etc, resumed their activities.
The fish market was closed since Friday evening, after the fish vendors walked out after learning that their colleague Vijaya Pagi was found murdered at Mastimoll.
