MARGAO: Miscreants vandalised and desecrated a Cross in the paddy fields of Gorvotti-Nuvem – meters away from the NH-17.
The incident sent shock waves in the locality as the structure of the Cross was found damaged at two three places.
A resident Jose Caeitano Rodrigues said that the Cross was built up in the area following the spate of fatal accidents on the highway. “A number of people had lost their lives in the accidents on the NH-17 and this had prompted the locals to erect the Cross to protect the motorists from any harm. It is indeed sad that miscreants targeted the Cross by vandalising the structure”, he said.
Maina Curtorim PI Harish Madkaikar rushed to the spot for an on the spot assessment of the situation. He asked his subordinates to conduct a site panchanama and initiate necessary action.
When contacted, PI Madkaikar said that no offense was registered in connection with the case since the residents demanded that the police instead intensify patrolling along the highway to prevent such incidents in the future.
