COLVALE: In a bizarre case, a woman had a stone tied to her waist and thrown into a well in Tivim. The woman’s body was found in a decomposed state and identified as Yallama Bekinal (35), hailing from Bijapur, Karnataka.
The Colva police cracked the case by arresting the accused Manjunath from Haveri, Karnataka.
On November 4, afternoon an information was received that one body was floating in the Well at Dhabadem, Tivim.
On receipt of this information unnatural death was registered by Colvale Police and investigation was taken up.
The dead body was fished out with the help of Fire brigade staff and found that the dead body is of female age about 30 to 40 years with Nylon rope tied with the stone at one end around the waist of the deceased.
As per SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, Colvale Police staff then conducted massive operation for tracing the identity of the dead body. Police Teams were formed and sent to the neighboring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka state to check their Missing Person. Also search was made at Colvale and Thivim area to find out any lady went missing.
Meanwhile the Post Mortem Examination was conducted and due to advance stage of decomposition exact cause of death could not be given by the Police Surgeon.
The Colvale Police Station launched a massive man hunt and finally a sister of deceased namely Renuka Chikarai, resident of Thivim was traced and she identified the dead body to be of her sister namely Yallama, wife of Nagappa alias Nagesh Bekinal (35), living near Saibaba temple Thivim and native of Karnataka state.
On further investigation it was revealed that deceased lady was having a friendly relation with one Manjunath, resident of Duler, Mapusa. Police suspected his involvement in the case and accordingly Colvale Police station immediately registered a case of murder on November 6, and investigation was taken up.
“Mobile of deceased was analyzed and police noted down the movement of suspect Manjunath . His full name was Manjuppa, alias Manju Nhajantri, Age 39, from Haveri Karnataka State. Accordingly team headed by PSI Mandar Parab of Colvale police station was immediately sent to Karnataka State and on Monday early morning he was arrested,” SP North, Shobit Saxena informed.
The accused person was interrogated and he confessed having committing of Murder. Police are conducting further investigation to find out the motive of the crime.
