PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) on Wednesday directed the Chief Secretary and Goa Police to file their reply to an application by Advocate Aires Rodrigues seeking that entire proceeding of the inquiries conducted by the department in the BRICS food scam case be placed on record.

A Division Bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa comprising of Justice Mahesh Sonak and Justice Nutan Sardessai on February 18 had directed the Goa Human Rights Commission to rehear the 2016 BRICS Summit food scam case by giving a hearing to Amoncar Classic Caterers who had moved the High Court stating that it was not heard by the Goa Human Rights Commission.
The Goa Human Rights Commission in April 2019 in its final order directed the Police Department to impose appropriate penalty on Amoncar Classic Caterers while pointing out that Article 21 of the Constitution of India that provides every individual a right to life, which includes right to live with decency and human dignity, was violated.
Rodrigues in his complaint to the Goa Human Rights Commission on October 14, 2016 had alleged that the contract of a whopping Rs 51.60 lakh was given to Amoncar Classic Caterers without a proper tender for supply of food to police personnel posted on duty for the BRICS summit. Further, the contract was sub-let to a roadside contractor, who clandestinely prepared the food in an open unhygienic space at Verna.
The GHRC has adjourned the matter for further hearing on June 24.
