MARGAO, MARCH 30
The High Court has issued directions to the Chief Secretary to direct the police officers on duty in Chinchinim village to take necessary action against offenders on illegal parking even right under the no parking sign boards.
The High Court has further directed the police officers to impose and recover fines for illegal parking. The in-charge inspector of the police station has been directed to convey the directions to the concerned police officers and seek regular reports from them.
The High Court directives comes following a writ petition filed by the Green Goa Foundation drawing attention of the court to the unorganized and haphazard parking of vehicles in the Chinchinim market.
The petitioner Raison Almeida submitted that besides haphazard parking, there are various illegal hawkers and kiosks that have mushroomed along the road on account of which not only the traffic is obstructed, but also results in accumulation of the people who come to purchase wares from the illegal hawkers and kiosks.
The petitioner further mentioned in his petition there have been three fatal accidents on the same stretch of road and numerous minor accidents. He said that altercations between road users are common and driving along the stretch of road has become a nightmare for old, children and disabled people.
