PONDA: The Civil Supplies Department (CSD) at Ponda has sent rice samples to the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to ascertain the quality of the second batch of seized rice which was recently handed over by the Crime Branch.

This is the second time that FDA will ascertain rice quality, after earlier certifying that the first batch of rice bags was fit for consumption.

It may be recalled that Crime Branch, which is investigating the alleged rice black-marketing racket, had handed over 243 remaining rice bags (each weighing 50 kilos) to the CSD at Ponda on June 28.

The Crime Branch had earlier handed over about 358 rice bags to the CSD, which was disposed at controlled price after FDA had verified the quality of the rice.

Ponda Police in November 2012 had busted an alleged rice black-marketing racket at Curti-Ponda and three persons were arrested in this connection. The State government later transferred the case to the Crime Branch.
