Culvert collapses

Sanguem: Due to heavy monsoon showers a culvert at Colleamoddi Amona in Quepem collapsed in the early morning hours today. The culvert served as the sole link for the villagers from Colleamoddi to connect with the fellow villagers residing at Cotto and to proceed for onward journey to Quepem.
Ward councillor Dayesh Naik said he had been warning the authorities about the weak condition of the culvert to no avail.
However despite being informed the PWD officials failed in acting into the matter ultimately leading to the collapse of the bridge, informed Naik.
Naik claimed that every time he used to contact the PWD officials only an assurance was given of the department working on the estimates for construction of the new culvert but nothing happened.
Due to the collapse of the culvert, the villagers residing at Colleamoddi will now have to travel additional three kilometres to reach Cotto, claimed Naik.
Naik informed that there are another two culverts in Amona which are also rendered weak and likely to collapse if not repaired at the earliest.
