MARGAO: Chief Minister and Chairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said that the contractor was partly responsible for the floods at Sanvorcotto-Cuncolim a week ago.
He said the contractor has been blacklisted and his contract terminated, adding that no more work would be allotted to him in future.
Exactly a week after the floods affected Sanvorcotto area of Cuncolim on Tuesday last, the Chief Minister along with Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, Sanguem MLA Subhash Faldessai and GSIDC Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues visited the area this evening and heard the grievances of the people. Parrikar assured the people that compensation will be paid to all the victims who have suffered losses caused by the floods.
When his attention was drawn to reports that the Youth Congress has decided to lodge a police complaint against GSIDC, Parrikar said, “I fail to understand how does crime come into the picture. This is a case of civil liability.”
The CM also visited Paroda village, which witnessed large scale flooding last week. He told media persons that the main road will be raised by a meter to prevent flooding.
