Advocate John Monteiro, who submitted the petition to the department on behalf of the locals, demanded immediate action in the matter, including restoration of consistent power supply to Cuncolim.
“Over the last two months, there has been a power failure in Cuncolim from 7 pm onwards till late night; this is the situation every day. Due to these power outages, the people of Cuncolim have faced tremendous hardship,” said Monteiro.
Monteiro claimed that when people tried calling the Electricity Department, the officials avoided the calls or kept the landlines off the hook to give the impression that the phone lines were busy.
“The heat is unbearable during the power failures. People are getting frustrated, and since there is no remedy, they approach the sub-division office with their grievances and are given petty excuses with no assurance of when the power will return,” added Monteiro.
