MARGAO: Acting on a complaint from the ill-fated trawler owner, the Cuncolim police have registered offences against the ‘unknown navigator” of the Coast Guard ship involved in the mid-sea mishap with a fishing vessel on Thursday.
The police have booked the navigator under section 280 of the IPC for rash and negligent navigation endangering human lives; 427 for causing damage to the fishing vessel; 337 for rash and negligent act causing injuries and section 304 of the IPC for rash and negligent act causing death.
DySP Mohan Naik said the offences have been booked against the unknown navigator of the Coast Guard vessel since the police have so far no details about the person manning the vessel.
He said the Cuncolim police would carry out investigations into the case as per law.
The owner of the capsized fishing boat has claimed to have suffered a loss of Rs 95 lakh including damage to the boat, fishing net and loss of diesel. The Navy and Coast Guard who were conducting search operation failed to trace any one of the five missing crew members till late Friday evening.
