CUNCOLIM: The multi-facility commercial project at Cuncolim market is put on hold due to the election code of conduct.
This project was initiated by local MLA Rajan Naik under GSUDA and the foundation stone was laid down by Urban Development Minister Francisco D’Souza, five months ago.
The multi-story commercial complex with parking facilities is expected to cost the government Rs 9 crore.
The government had granted its approval for the project, long before the election code of conduct was imposed. However, the contractors failed to start the work on the project immediately. And when he started the construction work after the code of conduct was imposed, the some councillors owing allegiance to Joaquim Alemao stopped the construction, by complaining to the Election Commission.
It is instructive that the work order was issued long before the code of conduct was imposed in Goa.
