SANGUEM: A high voltage transformer is standing precariously at the centre of the main road proceeding to Netravali at Uguem junction.
Initially, the transformer was by the side of the road; but after road widening, it now stands in the middle.
Though the road widening was completed a year ago, the transformer continues to remain in the middle of the road thereby posing danger to the motorists, particularly at night.
Motorists complain that since the transformer in is the middle, they are confused as to on which side of the transformer lies their lane
Moreover, since the transformer stands at a sharp turn, it makes the situation all the more worse, as the motorists cannot see the oncoming vehicles.
Villagers complain that their repeated requests to the authorities concerned to shift the transformer to a safer place have fallen on deaf ears.
Meanwhile, when Herald contacted, Assistant Electrical Engineer Rivonkar claimed that shifting the transformer is the responsibility of PWD (roads and bridges section), which, he said, was delaying the shifting.
Rivonkar informed that at the request of the PWD, the electricity department had prepared an estimate of the cost involved in shifting the transformer and had also informed the PWD to provide the alternate place to shift the transformer.
However, he said, even after a year and despite sending a couple of reminders, the PWD has not come forth with the payment for shifting the transformer and have also not provided the alternative place to shift the transformer and as such the transformer continues to remain dangerously in the middle of the road.
