MARGAO: The Cuncolim Municipal soccer cup which gets underway on Saturday kicked up a row of sorts in the civic body after ex-chairperson Devendra Desai alleging that the municipality is conducting the tourney without approval of the council.
Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas and Chief Officer Pandarinath Naik rubbished the allegations levelled by Devendra. The duo asserted the resolution giving the go-ahead signal for the Municipal Cup was taken at the council meeting after deliberations.
While Devendra claimed that no discussions took place on the matter at the council meeting, Chairperson Landry asserted that the matter was listed in ‘Any Other Business’ and was approved after due discussions. Chief Officer Naik confirmed that the council had given its approval for the Municipal Cup after discussions.
