MARGAO: The Cuncolim Chieftains Memorial Trust and the Cuncolim Municipal Council will commemorate the 430th anniversary of the historic 1583 Cuncolim revolt at the Cuncolim Municipal hall on Monday.
MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh, who had last year called upon the government to initiate steps to include the 1583 Cuncolim revolt in the school history text books, has been invited as the Chief guest.
Every year, the Cuncolim Chieftains memorial trust holds a function on July 15 to commemorate the Chieftains for their bravery in opposing the colonial power resulting in the historic 1583 revolt.
Though Cuncolim villagers have been demanding inclusion of the 1583 revolt in the school history books, successive government have only paid lip service to the popular demand over the years.
Incidentally, Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar during his visit to Cuncolim last year, had supported the demand of the villagers for inclusion of the 1583 revolt in the school history text books by constituting a 10-member team of experts to study the historical facts before a final decision is taken by the government.
