Cuncolim to organise float parade for the second successive year

MARGAO: Cuncolim Art and Cultural Association (CACA) will be celebrating Carnival with a float parade for the second successive year on March 4th  with the parade starting from Bhiunsa at 3 pm and culminating at the bus stand and will be led by Alison Mascarenhas as the King Momo.
“In times when the Goan culture is under severe threat, it is time for us Goans to not only preserve but enhance our culture and that is the reason why we started this Carnival celebration in Cuncolim following the initiative taken by Maxy Coutinho,” said Dr Jorson Fernandes of CACA.
While Dr Jorson thanked the Departments of Tourism and Art & Culture for their support to the programme for the second year, Tony Fernandes accused the Tourism Department of giving step motherly treatment to their programme.
“Tourism Department sponsors only Rs. 1 lakhs for us while others are sponsored with amounts ranging from Rs. 6 to Rs. 15 lakhs,” he said appealing that in future the Tourism Department sponsor at least Rs. 3 lakhs.
The floats will be judged in three different categories namely floats, junk car and clown categories besides also giving away quite a number of spot prizes. In the float category the first three prizes will be worth Rs. 80,000, Rs. 60,0900 and Rs, 40,000 while in the junk car category the first three prizes will be Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 and in the clown category the first three prizes will be of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000.
CACA will also felicitate 10 people from Cuncolim who have contributed immensely to art and culture and they are Pradip Chitari, Gurudas Prabhugaonkar, Santan Fernandes, Crosby Dias, Jayan Moraes, Sandesh Naik, Jeromin Coutinho, Sammy Tavares, Milroy Goes and Dr Shaikh Abdul Sakur.
