Curchorem bypass issue: hunger strike gets underway

The Mission Bypass Forum of Curchorem on Monday started its indefinite hunger strike to press for a bypass, in view of the growing mining traffic in the area.
CCMC Chairperson Abhay Khandekar, Councillor Abhita Khandekar, freedom fighter Gurunath Kelekar of MAARG Abhiyan, Forum President Pradip Kakodkar, Umesh Kakode, Amita Kakode and Rajani Bhembre were among those who participated in the strike on Monday.
Other who extended support to the strikers are freedom fighter Vassant Karapurkar amd Shivaji Kudchadkar, Dr Rohan Karmali, Dr Satish Kudchadkar, social worker Durganand Sanvordekar and JCI Curchorem President Dipti Rampurkar.
It may be recalled that the Forum had started with its agitation by organizing public meetings and morchas one year ago, besides meeting officials, MLAs and ministers.
Since there was no positive response from the government, the Forum finally decided to launch chain hunger strike in Gandhian way.
