CURCHOREM: Cajitan alias Caitan Fernandes (54) resident of Carriamoddi-Curchorem succumbed to self-accident injuries on Sunday morning at GMC, Bambolim.
According to Curchorem police the victim was traveling to Curchorem from Margao on Friday late evening on his two-wheeler and on reaching the Curchorem Fire Station building he dashed against stray cattle resting on the road and became unconscious.
On receiving the information, police rushed to the site and took him to Curchorem Primary Health Centre from where he was taken to Margao and later to GMC, Babolim.
Police Sub-Inspector S Kavlekar informed that the victim died on Sunday morning and as per the post mortem report his death occurred due to head injuries.
“The body was handed over to the relatives for final rites after post mortem,” informed Kavlekar.
According to former CCMC councilor Bertanand Fernandes who was trailing the victim in his car and witnessed the accident informed that the victim banged against stray cattle squatting on the road after being unable to spot them at night.
“I immediately called 108 services and soon after that I informed the police who had taken him to the Curchorem hospital,” said Fernandes.
It may be recalled that Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral had taken initiative in 2014 to keep the roads in Curchorem free from stray cattle and lifted around 132 stray cattle after Herald highlighted the menace.
But the menace resurfaced once again in Curchorem and invaded the roads and streets and are seen moving freely on the roads. People have once again reacted strongly to the lethargic attitude of the authorities concerned in dealing with the problem.
