PANJIM: Protesting service extensions given to hundreds of retired government servants, the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has asked the State to curtail extensions and the contract period by August 14, 2015.
In a letter to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, GGEA alleged that the move has brought promotions of eligible govt employees to a screeching halt while it has blocked recruitment of qualified unemployed youth in various govt departments.
“Such a practice hampers rightful promotional avenues of those who are lined up for promotion… job prospects of the children and other educated unemployed youth are hampered due to such service extensions and contract appointments of retired government servants,” the memorandum, signed by GGEA President John Nazareth, states.
It has urged the government not to entertain requests for extensions and/or contract appointment beyond retirement. Nazareth, in his letter, which has also been submitted to Chief Secretary said the govt should adopt a policy to stop the practice as is done in the banking and insurance sector.
GGEA has resolved to release names of retired staff in service either on extension or contract, and hold a disgraceful felicitation as a part of its Gandhian way to protest the practice. If anyone fails to attend the function, GGEA will visit their homes with an old-man-effigy and felicitate them, Nazareth said.
