PONDA: Curti-Khandepar Panchayat, which started managing garbage collection and disposal on its own since last year, is now planning to appoint a contractor, after several places in the village are reportedly littered with waste.
With no proper site to dispose garbage, it has become a difficult task for the panchayat to manage.
According to information, in June last year the garbage contractor quit after the land fill site was abandoned following public outrage. The garbage disposal at the site along the NH4 A at Curti was stopped after villagers complained that filthy water from the garbage site was flowing on the roads.
Sarpanch Deepa Naik said, “I was elected as sarpanch last May. Apart from other developmental works, garbage disposal was the one of the major issues we are still trying to tackle. I often receive phone calls from residents complaining about garbage.
