MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has requested the Government to respect the will of the people opposing the classification of various villages as urban areas.
In a letter to the CM Goa he said, “The wish of Curtorim and Raia villagers along with other 54 villages of Goa who oppose their villagers to be termed urban areas need to be adhered. The will of the people in opposing the notification of their villages as Urban Areas need to be respected.”
“A notification has been issued by the Revenue Department Under Secretary, Sudin Natu declaring 56 village from nine talukas as Urban areas. In this category villages of Curtorim and Raia under Curtorim Constituency are also notified. This notification is draconian by nature and its motive is nothing but destruction of all these exotic villages by massive construction to support the unending hunger of real estate lobby. These lush green villages then would be classified as CRZ II leading to all round concretisation,” said Reginaldo.
Reginaldo said that it is sad that neither the MLAs nor the local village panchayats of the said 56 villages have been taken into confidence before the issuance of such a drastic notification. “I therefore request your good self not to play into the hands of the Central Government by stating villages have been notified as per directions of Centre for Census 2021. We want to maintain the uniqueness of our villages depicted by its flora and fauna from the time which we have bequeathed of our forefathers to be passed on to the posterity,” Reginaldo added.
“Neither the Central government nor the State Government has any right to disturb the uniqueness portrayed by its natural beauty of the villages of our Goa,”
