MARGAO: This may be bad news for the Curtorim Congress MLA. The newly elected panchas of Curtorim have said that they are not with Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and have alleged that he worked against them in this election.
The newly elected members of the Panchayat Simon Barretto, Milagres Rodrigues, Rui Menezes, Akshata Korgaonkar, Shubhangi Prabhu, Nicholas Pais and others were present at the counting. Simon Barretto alleged that the MLA of Curtorim worked against them and tried to defeat them. Simon Barretto the re-elected panch of Curtorim said, “The MLA worked against 6 and all 6 have got elected. One more panch too is in contact with us and we will form a majority panchayat.”
Simon also underlined the fact this panchayat was no longer under Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco. “Out of 11 places 6 from my panel have won,” he said.
“We had worked for the Curtorim MLA in the last election, but he has betrayed us and supported candidates against us. We won’t tolerate any interference of the MLA in the Panchayat affairs now,” said Simon.
Meanwhile, the Curtorim MLA said, “I have not fielded a panel in this election and hence have nothing to do with the result or the allegations. The newly elected panchayat has to work independently in true spirit of the 73rd and the 74th amendment of the Panchayati Raj act.”
