MARGAO: The Curtorim Milk Union has objected to the price rise in milk proposed by the Goa Dairy.
In a press release, the Union said that the Goa Dairy Board and Management are looting local milk producers. “It is an unfortunate fact that the managing committee of Goa Dairy and the officers are looting Goa Milk producers Union which is known as Goa Dairy and an apex body of milk farmers associations,” the press note reads as.
“It is learnt that Goa Dairy management is planning to increase the price of milk. We do not know why the Dairy is putting more burden on the consumers. Goa Dairy is claiming that price hike is to facilitate the farmers, but it’s a the fact Goa Dairy is planning to increase the price of the milk to pay salaries of its employees as it has recruited more than 75 surplus staff,” said Ramesh Naik, chairman of Curtorim Milk Union, in the press note.
“The price raise is not going to help farmers in any way. They are not going to pay higher rate to farmers for their milk. Figures are clear that Goa Dairy pays farmers Rs 29 per litre and same the milk is sold for Rs 44,” he said.
