MARGAO: After the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department revoked its clearance for the controversial hotel project in Curtorim, the local panchayat is all set to do the same.
Curtorim deputy sarpanch Rupesh Naik stated that he panchayat had been compelled to give its permissions after the TCP had approved the project. The panchayat will now resolve to revoke the permission at the panchayat meeting on October 12.
Naik stated that the panchayat will uphold the verdict of people and oppose the project. He said, “TCP passed the project while overlooking the width of the road, which is less than eight metres. There is no garbage treatment plant and no sewerage line in the village. The TCP inspection is faulty and we cannot go ahead with the project.”
He continued, “Knowledge on whether the village can handle such large projects can only come from the panchayat and our verdict has to be honoured by the TCP. But at several instances we have been shamed as after our revocation the parties get permissions from the TCP. I am against the TCP superseding the local self government and feel that this practice should stop.”
While taking a dig at his panchas, Rupesh stated, “While issuing permissions, there were some who were in favour. Now let’s see who votes against the project.”
