Customs seize gold bars worth Rs 15.42 lakh

VASCO: The Air Intelligence Unit of Goa Customs at Dabolim International Airport on Monday seized gold bars worth Rs 15.42 lakh from Indigio Airline, which has arrived from Dubai.

In a press release issued by Goa Customs, the team headed by Y B Sahare, assistant commissioner of Customs (Airport) effected a seizure of 345 grams of gold bars valued at Rs 15,42,098 from Indigo Airline 6E-8445 arrived from Dubai.

Further the modus operandi used by the smugglers was to conceal the gold below the passenger seat so that the same could be picked up by the domestic passenger travelling by the same aircraft from Goa to Mumbai or by the ground handling staff.

The whole exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner of Customs and the Commissioner of Customs. Further investigation in this case is under progress. 

During this year, Customs of Goa Commissionerate has seized 6.607 Kgs of gold worth Rs 2.50 crore at Dabolim International Airport.
