MARGAO: Residents of dengue-hit Cutbona have decided to make representations to various authorities, including the District Collector, police and the local Velim village panchayat to take a call on the illegal water connections, net-mending sheds and storage of nets in the residential locality.
This was decided at a meeting of residents of the locality held on Friday, wherein they have decided to approach the authorities to take action against illegal water taps and other illegal storages on public land.
A resident of Cutbona and boat owner Seby Cardozo said there is unanimity amongst the local residents that the authorities should crack a whip against all the illegal water connections in the area. Besides, he said the locals have been demanding the shifting of the fishing nets and closure of the net-mending sheds in the area. “After the meeting, residents have now decided to make representations to the various authorities to act on their demands”, Seby said.
The residents also called on local MLA Benjamin D’Silva and conveyed their sentiments over the nuisance created by the public taps and the storage of fishing nets in the locality.
The residents also called on the Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Raju Raut Desai and intimated the police about the decisions taken by them at today’s meeting.
The Cuncolim police had deployed a vehicle load of policemen at Cutbona area as a precautionary measure, fearing forcible removal of the fishing nets by the residents. Seby, however, told the police that they would exhaust all means by submitting representations to the authorities to act on their demands.
