MARGAO, JUNE 26 Deputy Collector, Margao Johnson Fernandes on Saturday evening directed the authorities to open the sluice gate at Cutbona as large tracks of low-lying fields at Sokoband-Ambelim were inundated by flood waters.

Deputy Collector, Margao Johnson Fernandes on Saturday evening directed the authorities to open the sluice gate at Cutbona as large tracks of low-lying fields at Sokoband-Ambelim were inundated by flood waters.
Johnson visited the Sokoband area of Ambelim as the rising waters raised a scare amongst the residents.
As per the instructions, the sluice gate was opened at Cutbona, while the authorities are bracing up to open the sluice gate at Muxer-Velim. “With the opening of these two sluice gates, waters in the catchment areas will recede”, he said.
The talathis in the villages of Ambelim and Velim have been told to maintain vigil on the flood situation in these villages.
