PANJIM: The Directorate of Women and Child Development has issued a show cause notice to a member of child welfare committee (CWC) South Goa, Julia Kurian in connection with the purported violation of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
“It has been reported that Julia Kurian, member of CWC, South Goa has been in employment with Shanti Niketan School, a project of El-Shaddai Charitable Trust…the engagement of her as a member of CWC South Goa would be a conflict of interest,” reads the notice signed by Director Sunil Masurkar.
The department has also pointed out that being associated with the Trust, she is“deemed not to be in a position to give necessary time and attention to the work of the committee as per the JJ Act 2000 and the rules made there under.”Terming her appointment as inappropriate and breach of JJ rules, the department issued her a notice seeking reply as to why she should not be removed as CWC member. The notice is returnable within 15 days.
When contacted by Herald, Julia initially asked this reporter to call her after 6pm but refused to answer calls thereafter.
