PANJIM: In the wake of numerous cases where miscreants impersonate esteemed political representatives and senior government officials in fake WhatsApp accounts, Cyber Crime Cell has urged the public to remain vigilant when any such government officials’ fake accounts ask for money or gift cards.

As a matter of precaution, the Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime Cell has urged the public not to respond to any such messages without confirming the genuineness of the account. It is further advised to immediately inform the police after receiving such fake messages. According to the SP, the miscreants attempt to lure people into transferring money by several means including gift cards, by citing emergencies and several other reasons. Therefore, the public is advised to remain vigilant and not to transfer money to any bank account without confirmation.
