Unfazed by the political developments in the Congress camp, BJP MLA Damu Naik has exuded confidence of retaining the Fatorda seat for the third time in a row.
Commenting on the presence of Congress stalwarts in Fatorda constituency on Sunday, Naik said that Fatorda is an educated constituency. “I need not tell anything. The people will vote as per their conscience as they know that I am working for the welfare of Goa and Goans”, he said during an interaction with newsmen on the sidelines of the muharat of the Konkani film `O Maria’.
Hitting out at certain Congress leaders without taking their names, Naik said there may be people who are trying to get elected, but he will never allow any illegal activities in Fatorda, including land filling, concrete jungle, illegal cutting of hills to prepare football grounds, extortion et al.
“The people of Fatorda have faith in me and I have immense trust in my voters. I have taken up development works to the tune of Rs 16-17 crore, but others are trying to take credit for my work”, he asserted.
Replying to a question, Naik said in a democracy anyone has the right to contest the polls, but hastened to add that defeated candidates should not indulge in illegalities.
“There are some people who are known as Illegal Masters, but let me say their mastery over illegalities cannot continue for too long”, he added.
Naik had been twice elected as MLA from Fatorda constituency, with the Congress maintaining that the BJP flag has been flying high in the constituency due differences in the party camp and the spilt in the security vote.
