ASSAGAO: In a daring and solo protest bus owner Shyam Govekar sat in a pothole filled with rainwater on the Assagao road, opposite to the Assagao Village Panchayat. He demanded immediate repair of the miserable condition of the road.
Govekar has given an ultimatum of eight days for the repair work to commence, failing which he will undertake an indefinite hunger strike in front of the panchayat office. Other bus drivers and conductors, including a woman bus owner supported him.

Govekar said, “All the drivers are from the Bahujan Samaj, who are poor. We live from day to day. We are suffering this for the last 8 months. We are suffering huge losses due to the bad roads. We have had lot of patience. Now anyone can tell us what we should do. I’m giving them eight days to repair this road, otherwise I will go on an indefinite hunger strike.
Imtiaz Makhandar, Driver said, ” The entire stretch of road has huge potholes. We take a great risk in traversing this road. We also have a narrow bridge ahead. If there is an accident the driver and conductor will get beaten.”
Imran Shaik, Bus Driver, said, “The bus shakes from side to side and passengers hit against each other. They blame the driver for not driving properly.”
