MARGAO: The Davorlim-Dicarpale Village Panchayat had its last regular gram sabha where the annual administrative report and the expenditure for the last financial year was approved besides villagers raising some issues concerning the village.
At the outset, Sarpanch Tulsidas Dessai thanked the villagers for their co-operation and said the panchayat had tried to work in the interest of the village, however at times due to various reasons including red tapism some works could not be done.
He said the new panchayat body that will be elected shortly along with the new MLA and the new government will protect the interest of the village and work in the interest of the villagers.
While stating that the dry waste collection from door to door was an achievement of the panchayat, he lamented that a similar system for wet waste collection could not be set up. He also said issuance of documents like income certificate on the same date is an achievement that the panchayat members can be proud of.
He appealed to the crowd, to elect worthy persons when panchayat elections are held shortly.
The panchayat revealed that the Electricity Department wanted to set up a connectivity tower between the power house and the panchayat house to improve communication network with the department. However, it was decided to let the new elected body take a call on this proposal.
Former sarpanch Manuel Miranda while pointing out the shabby condition of the panchayat premises urged the members to at least clear the waste duped by the electricity department on the three foundation stones laid by representatives of the three major religious communities which is today totally covered with electricity debtris.
He urged the panchayat to clean the area so that the present generation can realize how the panchayat was built and who helped in it.
