MARGAO: Davorlim-Dicarpale Sarpanch Flancy Gomes, while agreeing to convene a special gram sabha to discuss major housing projects, assured the villagers gathered at the panchayat that the present body would review all construction licenses issued by the panchayat, including those issued by the previous body to ensure that all the terms and conditions are adhered to, while warning of stringent action against violators.
Locals had gathered at the panchayat to protest against big housing projects coming up in the village, thereby putting a severe strain on the infrastructure, including power, water supply, roads and even garbage.
It was pointed out that garbage was strewn all over the village, especially in quarries as the housing project promoters do not adhere to garbage management condition and occupants of these projects dump their garbage everywhere.
The entry to our village is full of paanwallas and the paan eaters who spit everywhere, said a villager, who urged the Sarpanch to ensure that the housing projects manage their own garbage.
A local, Armando Rebello opined that the constant power failures in the village was because of the strain on electricity put by these housing projects
“The panchayat body has decided to inspect all the projects and we shall see whether they have made provisions to manage their garbage both dry and wet, as the panchayat is currently collecting dry garbage only twice a week,” the sarpanch said.
She also said the panchayat would check whether transformers were erected by promoters of housing projects and whether proper drainage system was in place.
The villagers were protesting against the 52 flats coming up in ward No. 3.
The panch of Tolleaband said the mega housing project would be allowed only if the promoter made necessary arrangements for power and water supply, besides drainage and garbage management.
The sarpanch, while admitting that on inspection encroachment on comunidade land was notices in ward No 1, indicated a fresh inspection where the area would be measured digitally.
